Lost in the Jungle
For the better part of the last year and a half, most of my creative writing has been wasted on a browser rpg called Native Kingdoms. I’m pleased with some of the stuff I put out, but let’s be honest here. I was pouring my time and energy into something that was one enormous procrastination tool.
The character is a lot of fun. In the Aztec world, I am Cozamalotl, the Mad Warrior Witch of the Ihittaqueh. I can talk to frogs, plant rock gardens in front of my hut and wait for the rocks to grow, and I can be the absolute queen of the non sequitur.  I spent five terms on the council, three of those as the Tlatoani, which is the tribal chief, highest rank that can be achieved. A term is two months long, so aside from writing roleplaying posts in the forum, I spent ten months buried in game politics with perfect strangers.
Today, Cozamalotl, Mad Warrior Witch of the Ihittaqueh, resigned from the council, opting for the peaceful life of a nobody. I’ve never liked politics, and the angrier and nastier people became with each other, the less I enjoyed the game itself. Will I give her up completely? Probably not. She is a good outlet.  But I may take her off into the jungle for awhile until she’s achieved a measure of anonymity.  I have real writing to do. It’s time Coza took a backseat instead of being the main focus. And really, being available on MSN to anybody who needs a game favor, advice, a shoulder, or a whipping girl is far too distracting. Time to log off.
And how have I done since my last update? Yesterday was Weekend Writing at the Park Day. We never left the house, as it turns out. But I spent a good three or four hours writing. I took the Cosmic Lasagna intro that didn’t fit in the novel and launched a brand new story out of it — a story I actually finished in one sitting. The title still isn’t there yet, but I did some rewriting on the story itself today, so it’s getting closer. I also did a critique for Critters.
Holy cow, I’m writing. Things are looking up.
